Solitaire engagement rings are a classic expression of the one true love that you will share for a lifetime.  Featuring only a band and one gemstone, solitaire diamond rings are simple, yet bold.  The statement made by a solitaire setting is all about the purity of the diamond and the band on which it is set.

The size and style of the band are important.  A narrower band can have the effect of making a smaller diamond appear larger, and looks delicate and beautiful on smaller fingers.  A thicker band gives more options in the way the diamond is set.  Choosing platinum or white gold can give an engagement ring a stunning elegance, as the diamond matches the metal into which it is set, but yellow gold really lets the diamond stand out.

When it comes to the shape of the diamond, marquise and emerald cut or oval and pear-shaped stones can elongate the look of the gem, again making it appear larger than it actually is.  A well-cut, fiery round brilliant will stand out no matter its size.  If the diamond is an uncommon shape, like the trillium cut or heart-shape, it, too will stand out and catch the eye because of its rarity.  A standard 1 carat solitaire can be magnificent, but far less expensive than a setting with additional gemstones.  A 2 carat solitaire, regardless of shape, will be extraordinary.  Since larger stones are far less common, the cost is higher, but they are guaranteed to be awe-inspiring.  Just because you choose a simple solitaire setting does not mean that you are sacrificing beauty and elegance.
