Remember Carrie Prejean? She was the beauty who was relinquished of her Miss California title after sparking some controversy relating to same sex marriage. Well, Prejean has made news again. Over the weekend, Carrie became engaged to St. Louis Rams quarterback Kyle Boller, Carrie’s mother, Francine Coppola, told Access Hollywood.
According to Francine, her 22-year-old daughter described the proposal as something right from the movies. Kyle, 28, presented Carrie with a gorgeous 5 carat diamond engagement ring.
The pair celebrated their engagement at a Super Bowl party with friends and family in Solana Beach. Carrie is from San Diego and Kyle grew up in Southern California.
According to Francine, Carrie is “very excited” about the engagement. The couple has not yet chosen a date to exchange wedding rings.
Carrie was previously involved with swimmer Michael Phelps, and Kyle once dated actress Tara Reid.
Robbins Brothers, a Southern California retail jeweler, has come up with some amazing giveaways for this Valentine’s Day. Having recently partnered with Disney and Touchstone Pictures, the chain is running the “Romantic Wishes—‘When in Rome’” sweepstakes through February 14. Couples can submit their “ultimate romantic wishes” on the Robbins Brothers website for a chance to win a private screening of the movie “When in Rome” (starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel), an Amsale wedding dress, or even a trip for two to Rome.
The marketing department also asked all of stores’ salespeople to keep their ears open for couples with amazing or inspiring love stories. Their plan was to find the one ideal couple and invite them to the Hollywood premiere of “When in Rome”, and find one they did. 25-year-olf Navy Seal Chad Williams met Aubrey O’Boyle in line at Space Mountain at Disneyland. Williams was deployed all over the globe, including Iraq, but the couple stayed together despite any distance between them.
Miami, FL – Last night, the odds were supposed to be against the New Orleans Saints, expected to lose to the Indianapolis Colts by 5. The Saints knew what people were saying, but they never believed it. They felt, according to Coach Sean Payton, that: “…as underdogs, we had the better team. To be in that position where maybe a lot of people were picking against us, we liked the spot we were in”. And a great spot it was. Overcoming the power of the Colts and a first-quarter deficit, they won the game 31-17, earning themselves their first Super Bowl title, helping to heal a city still reeling from Hurricane Katrina, and forever allowing Saints fans to keep the paper bags off their heads. Getting the Championship title and giant rings encrusted with diamonds was just icing on the cake. “Four years ago, who ever thought this would be happening when 85 percent of the city was underwater from Katrina.”
With Simon Cowell officially set to leave American Idol at the end of this season, producers are looking to replace him with someone worthwhile, someone like Howard Stern – the self-professed “King of All Media.”
According to an insider, producers of American Idol say Stern is their first choice to replace Cowell. They approached Howard after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive contract with Sirius XM Radio expires next January and that he was open to potential offers.
Cowell was paid $50 million a year. A source connected to American Idol said “It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon. They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him.”
However, according to a different source, Howard Stern isn’t quite ready to make the leap: “Despite what he's been saying on-air, Howard isn't ready to leave radio and would like to stay on at Sirius. We believe this is a ploy to make Sirius pay up and keep him on his huge contract. But if Sirius can't pay him the money he wants, he may negotiate to film 'Idol' on the side.”
Well, if this story doesn’t break your heart, yours is probably made of stone. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Madonna and her boyfriend, model Jesus Luz, have broken up. Looks like the grossly mismatched pair won’t be exchanging wedding rings after all.
Madonna and Jesus started dating a little over a year ago, not long after Madonna split up with Sherlock Holes director Guy Richie.
According to reports, it was the 23-year-old Jesus who instigated the break-up with 51-year-old Madonna because they didn’t have enough common interests. Although, one interest they both shared was a love for Kabballah.
Jesus recently told Interview Magazine how he came to be known as Jesus: “My father [gave me] my name because he always admired Jesus Christ as the most philosophical mind of all time. So, when he named me, in his heart and his head, he made a deal, like, ‘I’m going to name you Jesus so everything good in life is going to come to you because they’re going to make the homage to Jesus.’ It’s a very special name. My name is ‘Luz,’ too, which means ‘light.’ So I feel like if I have this name that’s so special, I should attract good energy.”
Despite the break-up, Madonna is still investing $1 million into Brazilian coconut water, which she was introduced to by Jesus. According to US reports, Madonna takes the water everywhere she goes, drinking copious amounts after her challenging workouts. It is claimed that the water is a ‘fountain of youth’ that can ‘turn back the clocks’.
But Madonna isn’t the only one investing in this supposedly magical elixir. Demi Moore and Matthew McConaughey are also reportedly said to be investors in the Vita Coco.
This year’s Oscar Award Show is going to be a different affair. Instead of just 5 movies nominated for Best Picture, that figure has doubled, and the nominations are all interesting.
Avatar, which has already made history by earning more than any other movie, and The Hurt Locker, one of the lowest-grossing Oscar nominees, are set to battle it out this year with an impressive 9 nominations apiece. What makes this competition even more interesting is that James Cameron (the director of Avatar) and Kathryn Bigelow (the director of The Hurt Locker) used to be husband and wife. Yup… they exchanged wedding rings over 20 years ago. However, the ex-couple are now friends, so don’t expect to much bullying and animosity.
Thus far, Avatar won Best Drama and Best Director at the Golden Globes. The Hurt Locker earned top prizes from guilds representing directors and producers, and was chosen as best film of the year by many important critics. Upon accepting his Golden Globe, Cameron said: “Frankly, I thought Kathryn was going to get this. She richly deserves it.”
"It's a true David and Goliath kind of story, isn't it?" said Jeremy Renner, a best-actor nominee for his performance in The Hurt Locker.
Actress Kristen Bell and her boyfriend, actor Dax Shepard, are engaged. The couple have been dating for several years, starting soon after Dax and then-girlfriend Kate Hudson broke up. Bell and Shepard are currently co-starring in When in Rome.
According to Us Magazine, Shepard, 35, proposed to Bell, 29, over the holidays. During Sunday night’s Grammy Awards, Bell presented and took the opportunity to show off her stunning diamond engagement ring. The ring, designed by Neil Lane, is made up of a fancy-colored emerald cut diamond over 3 carats. It is set in platinum with small white diamond accents.
The couple began dating in 2007, after Bell broke it off with her then-fiance Kevin Mann. Before dating Bell, Shepard dated Jessica Simpson and Kate Hudson.
Bell, who has starred in Heroes and Veronica Mars, just wrapped her part in the forthcoming Burlesque alongside Cher and Christina Aguilera. Shepard will star in NBC’s forthcoming series Parenthood with Lauren Graham.
The 52nd annual Grammy Awards were as exciting as ever, with three diverse divas battling it out. Beyonce Knowles, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga were all nominated for various Grammys, and they didn’t leave empty-handed.
Beyonce, 28, went into the ceremony with 10 nominations. She walked away winning 6 Grammys, more than anyone else in the evening. She won all the R&B categories, Song of the Year for “Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the song “Halo.”
Beyonce perfomed her hit single “If I Were A Boy,” accompanied by a funky band and back-up dancers dressed like a cross between soldiers and stormtroopers. She also included a bit of Alanis Morissette’s big single “You Oughta Know” in the mix.
Swift, 20, walked away with the show’s highest honor – Album of the Year – beating out Beyonce and Lady Gaga.
During her acceptance speech, Swift could barely contain herself: “Oh my God! Our families are freaking out in their living rooms right now. . . . When we're 80-years-old and telling the same stories over and over again to our grandkids ... this is the story we'll be telling over and over again. That in 2010 we got to win album of the year at the Grammys!”
Swift, who was nominated for 8 awards, also won Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Album and Best Country Song for her song “White Horse.” She also had a chance to perform with one of her idols – Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks. The duo performed Swift’s “You Belong To Me,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon,” and “Today Was a Fairytale.” Swift was dressed beautifully, complete with twelve carat diamond pendant earrings custom made by Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira.
Veteran actor Elmore “Rip” Torn has been charged with breaking into a Connecticut bank and carrying a loaded handgun while intoxicated. According to state police, the 78-year-old actor was arrested Friday night when police found him inside the Litchfield Bancorp with a loaded gun.
Torn, who is a Salisbury resident, has been taken into custody and booked on several charges, including burglary and possession of a firearm without a permit. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Bantam Superior Court on Monday.
This is not the first alcohol-fueled incident for Torn. Last year he was given probation in a Connecticut drunken driving case and was permitted to enter an alcohol education program. Prior to that arrest, Torn had two drunken driving arrests in New York.
Rip Torn has starred in many films and television shows, including Freddy Got Fingered, Men in Black, The Larry Sanders Show and, most recently, 30 Rock.
Looks like James Cameron has done it again. After six rounds on the foreign circuit, Avatar has become the biggest grossing overseas movie in history – surpassing Cameron’s own Titanic.
So far, Cameron’s huge-budget blockbuster has grossed $1.288 billion. Titanic held the record for 13 years, grossing $1.242. That means Avatar sunk Titanic by $46 million – that’s a lot of money. Maybe Cameron will upgrade the diamond jewelry worn by the Na’vi in the imminent Avatar sequel.
Avatar’s most recent No. 1 weekend gross was $107 million – that’s from 11,800 screens in 111 markets. It was the sixth consecutive week that Avatar earned more than $100 million in the foreign circuit.
Here is a breakdown of the figures:
France - $123.3 million
Germany - $95.7 million
U.K. - $92.9 million
South Korea - $79.5 million
Japan - $77.7 million
Australia - $77.1 million
Spain - $76 million
