It is set to be the “Wedding of the Year”. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will be exchanging wedding rings. And a cast of hundreds are working hard, around the clock, to finalize all of the details. But before teenage girls have a collective meltdown, this is the wedding between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”. As yet, the young stars have not made public any plans to marry in real life. Nonetheless, designers ranging from Monique Lhullier to Christian Siriano have sent in designs, hoping theirs is chosen as the perfect dress for one of the most anticipated weddings of a human lifetime. The moonlight ceremony—necessary because Edward is a vampire—is intended to be as romantic, if not more so, than his proposal was. Edward offered Bella a diamond engagement ring that had been in his family for generations, and said, “Isabella Swan? I promise to love you forever—every single day of forever. Will you marry me?” Bella simply responded, “Yes”. But their engagement is bound to be as fraught with conflict and controversy as their entire relationship has. Both of their families disapprove of their love, because she is human and he is a vampire. Offering to love her forever means something significantly different to him than it will for her—unless she turns into a vampire herself (something readers of the fourth book know, but movie-goers do not yet). In real life, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been linked since filming of the first movie began. Though they tried to hide their relationship, they were often seen together and occasionally displayed affection in public. They are now openly a couple, although there have been many rumors about trouble in their relationship. Both the movie studio and the stars’ representatives fear that the relationship is not good for either one’s career. If the character of Edward gets married, it might turn away young fans who no longer see him as available. To see him in love is one thing, but for him to be off the market is another. The same is feared for the man who has become known as “R-Patz”. As long as young girls believe that he is available, they will continue to see his movies. His agents have worked hard to keep the relationship of Robert and Kristen out of the press, but it is difficult when young stars are in love and want to show it. If Pattinson, 23, and Stewart, 19, decide to take their relationship to the next level, it will be either really bad or really good for the “Twilight” franchise. No matter what, if this couple gets married, the whole world—living and undead—will know.
