Although most of the wedding ceremony plans are the bride’s idea with some input from her mother, your mother, and her bridesmaids, one area you are expected to offer at least a token amount of advice is the honeymoon. That’s right, after standing around for hours in a ridiculous looking tuxedo, you get to toss away the monkey suit and head out for the next week or so to your ideal destination. Guys, this is your chance to shine – let’s explore some honeymoon ideas that are sure to please you and your bride. Before I get started, a word of warning to the guys – getting married and honeymooning at an exotic location seems to be catching steam. Your family and guests get to travel to Aruba, Cancun or Hawaii with you, but don’t think for a moment that they will leave you alone once you are on your honeymoon. This is your time to be together; you’ll see your family when you return home. Is there anything more that needs to be said? Not every couple has the budget to travel far and the deep pockets to pay for that kind of a trip. Therefore, I have come up with three levels of plans for every honeymooning couple starting with those with limited means first. Honeymoon on a shoestring – you paid a bundle for the engagement ring, wedding bands and for the reception, but your honeymoon funds are quite limited. School loans and a limited income have conspired to keep your choices quite thin, but don’t be too alarmed: someone you know probably would be willing to lend the keys to their ski chalet or beach timeshare as their special gift to you. You may have to travel during the off season, but chances are you’ll be sporting around no matter what the season! Winging it, but with restraint – You aren’t poor, but you don’t have $50,000 to blow on a 15-day all-inclusive cruise of the Mediterranean Sea. You can, however, still go on a cruise if you do your homework. Or, if you have a travel agency friend who can help you out, enlist their support to save on airfare, the cruise, and other accommodations. You may have to shorten your trip to 7 days and cruise the Leeward Islands, but it’ll be a trip you simply won’t forget. Don’t forget to bring along your best gold jewelry to play dress up on select nights! A vacation for royalty – Skip the cruise ship altogether and rent a private yacht for a couple of weeks that will take you where you want to go. Port where you want, when you want, and have everyone else do the hard work for you. Oh, yes, rent a private jet to transport you and your spouse to the yacht in comfort normally reserved for Wall Street barons, Hollywood elites, and British royalty. Of course, she may be just as happy spending a quiet weekend alone with you in your new apartment. Love cannot wait, but maybe your honeymoon plans can and should.
