Since everyone started carrying around at least one mobile phone, a whole new industry has arisen from the ashes of those giant Zack-from-Saved-by-the-Bell-style foot-long cellular dinosaurs. Now it isn’t enough to have an iPhone, a Blackberry, a Sidekick. Now there are designers who spend their days looking for ways to pimp your phone.
Amosu, a mobile phone ‘customizer’, has just released what it claims is the world’s most expensive cell phone. At about $200,266 USD, it is, at present, the current leader. This Blackberry has been encrusted with 4,459 round brilliant diamonds weighing in at a total of 28.42 carats set into 18-karat yellow gold. It offers a 24-hour global concierge service, as well.
But it isn’t just the price that makes this handheld device exclusive. Only three like it have been produced. Amosu did create an ad for the phone, but, with only 3 in existence and a very limited possible clientele, one has to wonder who the advertising is trying to reach
It is set to be the “Wedding of the Year”. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will be exchanging wedding rings. And a cast of hundreds are working hard, around the clock, to finalize all of the details.
But before teenage girls have a collective meltdown, this is the wedding between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”. As yet, the young stars have not made public any plans to marry in real life. Nonetheless, designers ranging from Monique Lhullier to Christian Siriano have sent in designs, hoping theirs is chosen as the perfect dress for one of the most anticipated weddings of a human lifetime.
The moonlight ceremony—necessary because Edward is a vampire—is intended to be as romantic, if not more so, than his proposal was. Edward offered Bella a diamond engagement ring that had been in his family for generations, and said, “Isabella Swan? I promise to love you forever—every single day of forever. Will you marry me?” Bella simply responded, “Yes”.
Cal Ripken, Jr. has always been a bit different than most other professional athletes. He grew up with the game, following in the footsteps of his father. He worked hard, was friendly to the fans, and he always, always played. In 1983 he earned the first of his 19 All-Star positions and was named the American League MVP, receiving the traditional plaque with a baseball diamond at its center. On September 6, 1995, Ripken passed Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130 consecutive games played. On June 14, 1996, he broke the world record for consecutive games played when he reached 2,216, surpassing Japanese player Sachio Kinugasa. When he retired in 2001, so did his famous #8. The monument built for him outside of Camden Yards was stolen Tuesday night by four young men in a prank almost worthy of the Darwin Awards.
Now, Dupont has sired an accessory truly worthy of 007: The Ligne 2 Champagne Lighter. Part of their Prestige Collection, this little item is made of solid 18-karat white gold and adorned with 468 brilliant-cut diamonds. For only $79,000, you, too, can offer a light to someone, dazzling them with the natural fire of hundreds of diamonds.
Swiss watchmaker Longines, known for its elegant designs using diamonds as accents, has enjoyed a great partnership with Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. At this year’s French Open, Longines celebrated its third year as the Open’s official timekeeper, and both Agassi and Graf celebrated the 10th anniversary of their 1999 French Open victories.
50 Cent, while preparing for the release of his upcoming album “Before I Self-Destruct”, also created a mix of him rapping over various 1990s R&B hits. While the original title for this was “Sincerely Yours: Southside Part 2”, 50 Cent decided to change the title after the death of Michael Jackson. "That’s what gave me the concept for the artwork. There’s a real human skull that’s got diamonds embedded in it…It’s an artifact, it’s priceless. That’s a real skull they see."
Diamonds have been shaped as surgical knives because the well-known hardness of the material makes it easier to maintain an extremely sharp edge. The PicoDiamond™ Black Diamond blades are made of lab-grown black diamonds. A colorless diamond knife would be problematic in some surgeries, but advantageous in others.
At the 2009 BET Awards, rapper Jay-Z performed his controversial new song called “D.O.A. (Death of Autotunes)”, a computer program that allows singers to alter their voices. The program also allows singers to use it while performing, guaranteeing a perfect performance every time, but, as Jay-Z points out, makes the live performance less authentic.
San Diego, California – A teardrop-shaped gem has been discovered in Lake County, and is said to contain a very clear image of the Virgin Mary cradling the baby Jesus. The man who found the gem is Rev. Dr. Douglas Van Dyke, D.D., who discovered it by accident while out looking for “Lake County Diamonds”.
Kobe Bryant wanted his fourth NBA Championship ring more than any other. Not because he is now only one diamond-encrusted ring behind Magic Johnson and two behind Michael Jordan. Not because he would be helping coach Phil Jackson earn his 10th gold ring. Kobe Bryant wanted this purple, gold, and diamond ring because it would be his first without the shadow of “The Diesel” Shaquille O’Neal over him.
