Roman Polanski Still In Jail To Pay Bail
It looks like notorious director Roman Polanski will be held in jail for at least three more days because he needs time to pay his staggering $4.5 million bail, Swiss authorities revealed on Tuesday. All other conditions have been met to allow the 76-year-old auteur to be placed under house arrest at his Alpine chalet. The bail transfer is expected in the next few days said Ministry spokesman Folco Galli. During his house arrest, Polanski will be fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. He will not be allowed to leave his house in Gstaad until Switzerland decides whether or not to extradite him to the U.S. for sentencing. Polanski’s bail is set for $4.5 million, which he must pay in full. Roman has been held in Swiss custody since his arrest on September 26. He travelled to Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award and was subsequently apprehended. The courts in Los Angeles want him returned for sentencing for a crime he committed over 31 years ago. On Monday, Polanski was visited in jail by his lawyer Lorenz Erni and French diplomat Jean-Luc Faure-Tournaire. Faure-Tournaire said Polanski was in "good spirits" and satisfied with how he has been treated. It is uncertain when Polanski's wife and two children would join him in Gstaad. A spokesman for former President Bill Clinton told ABC News that his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea is the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton - the current Secretary of State in President Barack Obama’s Cabinet. She met Mezvinsky when they were both teenagers in Washington. They both attended Stanford University in California. Mezvinsky is a son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, who are longtime friends of the Clintons. Man Appeals For Stolen Ring To Be Returned
David Hayes-MacLeod, 27, from Uxbridge, UK, is appealing for the return of his wedding ring, which he believes was stolen from his gym locker. He is requesting that the public be on the lookout for the ‘distinctive’ design of the white gold ring encrusted with diamonds, estimated to be worth around £800. MacLeod is a primary school teacher. He was a member of Fitness First Gym until he cancelled his membership following the theft. He has reported the stolen ring to the police and they are also urging the public to be alert to its potential whereabouts. According to MacLeod: “It was last Tuesday evening, I went to the gym after work, and after my workout discovered the ring was missing from my locker. I took it off because you are supposed to take off all jewelry prior to a workout. Being filthy rich definitely has its perks. First-class flights, penthouse suites, fancy cars, and gold and diamond encrusted iPhones. As the holiday season approaches, upscale retailers are taking decadence to new levels, creating luxury items that most mere mortals can only dream of. Taking normal items and turning them gold, or embedding diamonds and other jewels into them is becoming more common, and it’s almost a contest to see who can come up with the most ostentatious holiday gift. 39 Carat Evening Star Diamond Up For Auction
A glorious 39 carat diamond known as the Evening Star is going on the auction block at Christie’s in New York City. The Evening Star is a 39 carat, pear-shaped, D color diamond, and is estimated to be worth between $3.6 million and $5.5 million. Christie’s is including the Evening Star as a masterpiece at it ‘Magnificent Jewels for a Distinguished Private Collector’ auction. The auction will feature 10 special jewels and will be held on December 10, 2009. The diamond, which was mined from India’s Golconda mines, received its name from its former owner - she chose to wear it to evening galas as a pendant on a diamond necklace of 68 graduated pear-shaped diamonds embedded in platinum. The necklace itself is estimated to be worth $400,000 to $600,000. It is being offered as a separate item in the sale. Also, a matching pair of diamond ear pendants - with two pear-shaped, D-color diamonds of 10.21 and 10.51 carats - is estimated to fetch $1.7 million to $2.5 million. Two Cullinan Diamonds Sell For $2.8 Million
Petra diamonds has revealed that two Cullinan white diamonds were sold early in November for a combined value of $2.8 million. The diamonds were 58 and 53 carats. Petra believes that the prices these diamonds went for suggests that another two diamonds recovered in the same production series earlier this year, 507 and 168 carats, will go for a handsome price. Petra is very pleased with the prices achieved for the two diamonds. The 58.49 carat stone sold for $1.82 million and the 53.31 carat stone sold for $0.96 million. Petra is still deciding how to market it 507 carat diamond to maximize profit. According to experts, the stone is of exceptional color and clarity. However, it seems that the 168 carat diamond will be sold first. Diamond prices at Petra have been on the incline since the financial year’s end. The most recent diamond tenders saw strong prices, particularly in October and early November. The company reported that it has sold a number of ‘special’ diamonds from the Cullinan and Koffiefontein mines in the last four months. ...
